Investor Hemendra Mathradas Kothari sold 5,38,290 equity shares in Sonata Software at Rs 866.65 per share on the NSE, while HDFC Mutual Fund sold 5 lakh equity shares in Kirloskar Pneumatic at Rs 410.1 per share on the BSE.

Any weakness below 17,800 could retest the last swing low of 17,600 levels. As long as the minor positive chart pattern of higher tops and bottoms is intact, there is a hopes of upside bounce from the lows, says Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities.

"Initial upside targets to be watched around 17,500-17,600 levels in the next few sessions. Immediate support is placed at 17,300 levels," said Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities.

Radhika Dubash acquired additional 1.11 lakh equity shares in GSS Infotech at Rs 74.88 per share on the NSE. The stock gained 4 percent.

Gaurav Ratnaparkhi, Head of Technical Research at Sharekhan, said the index is headed towards the 16,800 level. "The level of 16,800, which was our medium-term target earlier, now becomes the short-term target and the medium-term target has been raised to 17,500. Thus, the short-term traders are recommended to hold on to their long positions and ride the trend for higher targets," he said.
