"On the hourly chart, the index has given a consolidation breakout. The RSI is in a bullish crossover on both the hourly and daily timeframes. A fresh leg of bullishness starts above 25,000, while support is placed at 24,900. If the index falls below this level, it might correct down towards 24,750," said Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst, LKP Securities.

Nifty closed 66 points lower, ending above the 24,400 mark and forming a High Wave candle pattern. Analysts indicate a sustainable move above 24,580 is needed to confirm a near-term bottom reversal. The index has broken below the 10-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) support and is now nearing the 20-day EMA support around 24,270.

Given this, analysts suggest investors exit the segment, at least, for the time being. Stock market holiday: On Monday, the 30-share BSE Sensex pack fell 326 points or 0.50 per cent to close at 64,934, while the broader NSE Nifty index moved 82 points or 0.42 per cent down to end the session at 19,444.

Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 35 points, or 0.19 per cent, higher at 18,393.50, hinting at a positive start for the domestic market on Thursday.

In past four trading days, BSE smallcap index has rallied 5.3 per cent, as against 3.6 per cent rise in the S&P BSE Sensex.
