The order was passed by the additional commissioner of CGST and central excise in Ujjain, demanding a goods and services tax of Rs 17 crore in taxes, and another Rs 17 crore in interest and penalty, according to an exchange filing. In a second order, it demanded a tax of Rs 99 lakh and Rs 1,04 crore as interest and penalty.

The Competition Commission of India approved on Friday the proposed acquisition of the India Cements Ltd. by UltraTech Cement Ltd. for Rs 3,954 crore. Earlier this month, the antitrust watchdog had sought clarifications from the two companies regarding the deal, which they responded to. The CCI will issue a detailed order about its approval later, according to the CCI order that has been uploaded on its website. As of September, UltraTech held a 22.77% stake in India Cements.
