Sensex, Nifty updates on 28 March 2025: The benchmark BSE Sensex slipped 0.25% to close at 77,414, while the broader NSE Nifty 50 fell 0.41% to 23,494, weighed down by IT and auto stocks as investor sentiment turned cautious ahead of the U.S. reciprocal tariff announcement next week.

Indian markets closed higher on Thursday as financial and energy stocks surged. The BSE Sensex rose 609.86 points to 74,340.09, while Nifty 50 gained 207.40 points to 22,544.70. RBIs $21 billion liquidity infusion and lower crude prices boosted investor sentiment.

Stocks including Mobikwik, Vishal Mega Mart, Ambuja Cements, Adani Energy, Auro Pharma, Sai Life Sciences, Sun TV Network and more will be in the spotlight on Wednesday, December 18.

The GIFT Nifty was trading above 24,300. Ambuja Cements Ltd. Jindal Saw Ltd., Piramal Enterprises Ltd., and Minda Corp Ltd. share prices are likely to react. The GIFT Nifty was flat at 24,364.50 as of 06:36 a.m.

As many as 15 stocks hit their 52-week lows today. BSE 500 stocks such as Prince Pipes and Fittings Ltd and Tata Technologies Ltd hit their respective one-year low levels. That said, 250 stocks touched their one-year high levels today.

Data compiled from an Emkay report shows that the aggregate adjusted PAT growth of BSE 500 companies declined by 0.5% year-on-year. Comparatively, the earnings growth was 3.2% in the June 2024 quarter and 41.6% year-on-year in the corresponding period of the previous year. The performance deteriorates further if the financial sector companies are excluded as the adjusted net profit growth contracts to 9.8% year-on-year. The energy sector significantly dragged the overall earnings growth whereas healthcare and industrial sectors provided support.

The dispute pertained to delayed delivery of pipes by SAW Pipes Ltd, now Jindal Saw Ltd, to Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL).
