BSE Sensex rose 335.39 points, or 0.46per cent, to end the day at 73,097.28. NSE's Nifty ended at 22,151.00, gaining 153.30 points, or 0.70 per cent for the day.

BSE Sensex scaled new highs of 73,994.70 for the day. However, BSE's barometer finally settled 60.80 points, or 0.08 per cent, higher at 73,806.15.

In the NIfty50 pack, Hero MotoCorp rose over 1.5 per cent, while Tata Steel gained 1.4 per cent. Tata Motors rose another 1.25 per cent to hit new highs

From here on, if Nifty has to sustain at higher levels, contribution from the heavyweight banking space is a must. Since it is struggling around the bearish gap, it is better to wait for further clarification to project higher levels in Nifty, says Osho Krishan, Sr. Analyst - Technical & Derivative Research, Angel One.

On the sectoral front, BSE Realty index added 4 percent, BSE Telecom index rose 3.8 percent, BSE FMCG and Power indices gained 1.5 percent each.

Sensex, Nifty updates on 23 February, 2024: During Friday’s trading session, India’s benchmark stock indices, Sensex and Nifty, went through a volatile phase and ended lower due to selling pressure in IT and select banking stocks. The BSE Sensex closed at 73,142.80, slipping 15.44 points, with 17 components in the red and 13 in the green. Although it opened higher, profit-taking activities led to losses later in the day, with the index fluctuating between 73,413.93 and 73,022. The broader Nifty of NSE also closed lower at 22,212.70, down 4.75 points. While FMCG, pharma, and financial shares gained, losses in IT and private bank shares offset these gains. On the global front, markets were mostly higher, following impressive quarterly results by Nvidia that led to strong gains in US markets.

On the sectoral front, BSE Auto index rose 5 percent, BSE Oil & Gas index gained 3 percent, BSE Energy index rose 3 percent.
