Indian markets closed sharply lower Thursday, with Sensex falling 823 points and Nifty over 253 points. Selling was broad-based, driven by global tensions, oil prices, F&O expiry fears, and underperformance in IT, metals, and auto sectors.

The stocks with highest cuts include Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, Siemens and Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB) which have fallen by 64%, 60% and 59%, respectively.

Indian equity markets ended higher for the week, with the Sensex up 1.6% and Nifty gaining 1.3%, led by largecaps. Smallcaps lagged amid rising volatility. Key triggers ahead include the US Fed rate decision, Q4 results from SBI and Kotak Bank, India-Pakistan border tensions, and crude price swings. FIIs remained net buyers and the Rupee appreciated past 84/USD.

Amidst market volatility, high beta stocks experienced steeper declines, with many falling significantly from their peaks. Low beta stocks demonstrated greater resilience, declining less on average. Factors like global trade tensions, FII selling, and concerns over corporate earnings have contributed to market wobbles. However, recent FII buying and expectations of India's economic outperformance offer some tailwinds.

Indian markets closed lower Wednesday despite an RBI rate cut, as global trade tensions and recession fears weighed on sentiment. IT and pharma stocks lagged, while FMCG held firm. US markets rallied after Trumps tariff pause, but European shares fell amid rising China-US trade friction and healthcare sector concerns.

Stocks including GAIL (India), Vodafone Idea, NTPC, Concord Biotech, HAL, IRB Infrastructure, NTPC Green Energy and BPCL will be in the spotlight on Wednesday, April 09.

The market on Thursday opened in the green, extending its upward move for the second day. With Nifty rising above 22,400 and Sensex gaining over 200 points to trade at 73,974.91, BSE Ltd., Gensol Engineering Ltd. and Route Mobile Ltd. were among few of the buzzing stocks on Thursday.

Route Mobile shares touched an intraday high of Rs 1119.90 rising 11.69% against the previous close of Rs 1002.65 on BSE. Earlier, the stock opened higher at Rs 1024.05.
