Benchmark indices extended gains on Monday on the back of buying in auto and construction stocks. The BSE Sensex rose over 450 points or 0.84% to 54,782, and the NSE Nifty 50 gained 104 points to 16,370.

Currently, the index is close to the 61.8 percent Fibonacci retracement level (15,671-18,114), and the 16,600 level would be critical. A break below 16,600 can drag the index lower towards 16,450 followed by 16,200 levels, says Malay Thakkar, Technical Research Associate at GEPL Capital.

The Sensex and Nifty are set to open higher on Thursday, tracking positive cues from global equities and firm trading on SGX Nifty futures.
