On Wednesday, Indian shares were barely moving as investors prepared for a significant rate hike from the U.S. Federal Reserve and signs of further increases. The S&P BSE Sensex was down 100 points at 59,600 levels while the Nifty50 was trading below 17,800 levels.

Indian benchmark indices extended losses on Tuesday, tracking subdued sentiment overseas. The BSE Sensex fell 700 points, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped below 16,400. Sectorally, consumer durables, financials, auto, realty, and banks led losses on the Nifty, down up to 2 per cent.

Indian benchmark indices were trading flat on Wednesday as IT, and auto stocks saw selling pressures. Both BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50 were fluctuating between gains and losses in volatile trading. The broader markets, meanwhile, outperformed the two indices.

Benchmark indices extended gains on Monday on the back of buying in auto and construction stocks. The BSE Sensex rose over 450 points or 0.84% to 54,782, and the NSE Nifty 50 gained 104 points to 16,370.

Recovering from steep correction in the previous session, benchmark indices sharply on Friday amid strength in Asian markets and US equity futures. The BSE Sensex rose over 1,200 points and was seen testing the 54,000-mark, while the NSE Nifty 50 index climbed nearly 400 points and was within striking distance of 16,200 level.

Indian equity markets on Friday bounced back slightly from Thursday's rout as the key benchmark indices were trading higher amid high volatility, mixed global cues. In noon deals, the BSE Sensex was up 600 points to 53,550, while the NSE Nifty 50 was around 16,000 level.

Rajesh Palviya of Axis Securities expects the index to consolidate within a broad range from 17,600 to 16,800 levels in the coming sessions with mixed bias and high volatility.
