Shares of Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) increased by 15% after the company, in a joint venture with Tata Projects, secured a Rs 2,470 crore contract for a 1,000 MW pumped storage project in Maharashtra from Tata Power. The project includes significant civil and hydro-mechanical works, enhancing HCCs position in India's hydropower sector.

The announcement came post-market hours today. Earlier in the day, HCC shares slipped 2.23 per cent to close at Rs 24.60. At this value, it has slumped 36.14 per cent on a year-to-date (YTD) basis.

HCC share price: HCC shares surged 5.93 per cent to hit a high of Rs 23.95. The stock was last seen trading 3.58 per cent up at Rs 23.42. At this price, it has corrected 39.20 per cent on a year-to-date (YTD) basis.

BSE Smallcap fell 2% last week, with 821 stocks declining up to 43%. Market sentiment remained weak due to US recession fears and tariff wars. Notable laggards included BMW Industries, Triveni Turbine, Orchid Pharma, and Coffee Day Enterprises.

HCC shares fell 4.2 per cent to hit a low of Rs 39.21 on BSE. The stock is still up 40.86 per cent in 2024 so far.
