Textile stocks have exhibited a mixed performance so far this calendar year (CY23), amidst higher domestic cotton prices and tepid global demand. Shares of Page Industries, Dollar Industries, Lux Industries, and VIP Clothing have declined up to 13 per cent so far in CY23, as against a 9 per cent jump in the S&P BSE Sensex. On the contrary, shares of Arvind, Welspun India, Raymond, and Gokaldas Exports have gained up to 51 per cent, during the same period.

Garment stocks: Shares of Rupa & Co zoomed 16.04 per cent to settle at Rs 237.95, snapping their four-day fall. On a year-to-date (YTD) basis, the stock has slipped 16.45 per cent. It has declined 46.96 per cent in the past one year

BSE Sensex surged 448.96 points, or 0.76 per cent, to 59,411.08, whereas NSE's Nifty50 jumped about 147 points, or 0.87 per cent, to 17,450.90. for the day.

Fundamentally, the fall in cotton prices – which is a key raw material for textile companies – augurs well for their financials

However, Kitex Garments said the company's order book in queue for 2023-24 indicates achieving a better performance in Q1 and normal performance by Q2

There was no major jump in investor wealth, possibly because only select large-cap stocks rallied.
