Indian benchmark equity indices ended lower on Friday, once again succumbing to profit booking after hitting all-time highs, although they locked in a third straight week of gains powered by a rally in financials and the return of foreign investors.

Apollo Hospitals, Muthoot Finance, Bharat Dynamics, Godfrey Phillips, Swan Energy, Suven Pharma, Welspun Corp, TBO Tek, PTC Industries, and more will release their Q4 results later today.

Auto and metal stocks helped Indian benchmark equity indices on Friday log their best week since early February. The market would be open this Saturday as part of a disaster recovery exercise. MACD showed bullish trade on the counters of Bharat Rasayan, Lux Industries, Data Patterns, TeamLease Services. Tata Steel, Tata Motors, SBI, ONGC were the most traded stocks.

Domestic benchmark equity indices advanced on Thursday, led by heavyweight banking and IT stocks. Nifty formed a small Hanging Man pattern on the daily chart. Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, RIL, M&M, SBI, ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel were among the most active stocks.

Sensex, Nifty updates on 09 May 2024: Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty tumbled about 1.5 per cent on Thursday amid heavy foreign fund outflows and selling in HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro and Reliance Industries. Declining for the third day running, the BSE Sensex dropped 1,062.22 points or 1.45 per cent to settle at 72,404.17. During the day, it tanked 1,132.21 points or 1.54 per cent to 72,334.18. The NSE Nifty dived 345 points or 1.55 per cent to 21,957.50. During the day, it tumbled 370.1 points or 1.65 per cent to 21,932.40. From the Sensex basket, Larsen & Toubro tanked over 5 per cent after March quarter earnings. Asian Paints, JSW Steel, ITC, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and Power Grid were among the laggards. In contrast, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, State Bank of India, Infosys and HCL Tech were the gainers.

The BSE smallcap index has crashed about 13.5 per cent from its 52-week high, while the BSE midcap index is down about 7 per cent from those levels.

Nifty on Wednesday ended 118 points higher to form a long bull candle with a long lower shadow on the daily charts. The headline index ended at a record closing high which was above the 21EMA on the daily scale.

V-Mart Retail, Dilip Buildcon Ltd, Rajesh Exports, Gujarat Mineral Development Corp, UPL and Laurus Labs were among some of the companies that saw steep cuts in earnings estimates for FY25.

Nifty on Tuesday made a fresh peak and ended 75 points higher near the 22,200 mark to form a long bull candle on the daily charts. The index has been making a higher high both on daily and weekly charts.

A short build-up was seen in 66 stocks, including Apollo Tyres, Max Financial Services, Britannia Industries, Info Edge India, and Laurus Labs. An increase in OI along with a fall in price points to a build-up of short positions.

Textile stocks have exhibited a mixed performance so far this calendar year (CY23), amidst higher domestic cotton prices and tepid global demand. Shares of Page Industries, Dollar Industries, Lux Industries, and VIP Clothing have declined up to 13 per cent so far in CY23, as against a 9 per cent jump in the S&P BSE Sensex. On the contrary, shares of Arvind, Welspun India, Raymond, and Gokaldas Exports have gained up to 51 per cent, during the same period.

Based on the OI percentage, 87 stocks, including Astral, Lupin, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Titan Company and National Aluminimum Company, saw long build-ups.

For the week, both BSE Sensex and Nifty50 indices slipped 0.2 percent each.
