Wall Street on Thursday saw a stark divergence from the previous day as smaller and previously neglected market sectors surged, contrasting with declines among Big Tech giants.

Nifty concluded Monday's session on a neutral note, forming a Doji pattern on the daily charts. This indicates hesitation among investors, with neither bulls nor bears gaining a clear advantage. Despite this pause, the short-term trend remains positive.

Based on the OI percentage, a total of 74 stocks were on the short-covering list which included Vodafone Idea, IndiaMART InterMESH, Biocon, Page Industries, and Sun TV Network.

KR Choksey recommended hold rating on Supreme Petrochem with a target price of Rs 592 in its research report dated January 29, 2024.

A short build-up was seen in 55 stocks including LTIMindtree, HDFC Bank, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, Max Financial Services Company, and IndiaMART InterMESH.

Nifty futures on the NSE International Exchange traded 38.50 points, or 0.18 per cent, lower at 21,411, hinting at a negative start for the domestic market on Thursday.

The 30-share BSE Sensex pack dived 928 points or 1.53 per cent to settle at 59,745; while the broader NSE Nifty index moved 272 points or 1.53 per cent down to close at 17,554. Mid and smallcap shares finished on a weak note, with the Nifty Midcap 100 down 1.13 per cent and Nifty Smallcap 100 moving 1.14 per cent lower.
