Based on the open interest future percentage, a long build-up was seen in a total of 70 stocks on Thursday, including Oracle Financial, Astral, Gujarat Gas, Rain Industries, and Persistent Systems.

On the sectoral front, the Nifty FMCG index fell a percent and the PSU Bank 0.6 percent, while the metal index added 1.7 percent and the information technology index 0.8 percent

According to experts, Nifty may remain bullish if it stays above 18,300 level, but if it slips below 18,000, profit-taking could set in at 17,800, followed by 17,650. They see strong broad-based buying in the coming week, with other sectors too contributing to the uptrend.

Buying binge by domestic investors, falling crude oil prices and a good start to the quarterly earnings season, however, helped the benchmark indices trim some losses. For the week, BSE Smallcap index shed 2.2 percent, Midcap lost 2.6 percent and Largecap index 1 percent

During the week, foreign institutional investors sold equities worth Rs 9,941.71 crore, while domestic institutional investors invested Rs 7,030.96 crore in the market

Shrikant Chouhan of Kotak Securities says 17,625 could be the range breakout level for the day traders. Above that, the breakout continuation formation is likely to continue up to 17,665-17,725 levels.
